The Full Story

Gutter repair in North Texas is usually storm triage. The same hail that bruises a roof dents and perforates aluminum gutters, and straight-line winds pull hangers and separate seams — and because gutters sit at eye level, they are often the most visible evidence a homeowner has that a storm actually hit the house.

We repair what is genuinely repairable and say so when it is not, and because we work storm claims constantly, we photograph what we find whether or not it turns into a claim.

What We Actually Repair

The common Texas list: resealing failed seams and end caps, replacing pulled or spaced hangers, re-pitching runs that have sagged out of slope, reattaching and re-sizing downspouts, repairing fascia damage behind the gutter, and clearing blockages that have turned a gutter into a planter. Sealant work deserves particular attention here, because Texas heat is hard on it — DFW averages 20 days a year at or above 100°F on the 1991–2020 normals, and repeated thermal expansion and contraction works joints loose faster than a milder climate does. A gutter that was sealed five years ago is not necessarily sealed today.

The Detail Texans Should Care About: Where the Water Goes

Gutters are not really about the gutter. Across the Blackland Prairie, much of North Texas sits on Houston Black — the official Texas state soil, a deep Vertisol clay with very high shrink-swell potential covering roughly 1.5 million acres. That soil expands when it takes on moisture and contracts through hot dry stretches, and it is the reason foundation watering is a normal homeowner practice here rather than an eccentricity. A failed gutter concentrates roof runoff at one point of the foundation, driving exactly the uneven wetting that soil is worst at handling, while a working system carries it away and keeps moisture around the slab more even. In much of the country a leaking gutter is a nuisance. On expansive clay it is a foundation issue in slow motion, which is why we treat downspout discharge and extension length as part of the repair rather than an afterthought.

Repair or Replace

Spot repairs make sense when the run is straight, the metal is sound and the problem is localized — a few seams, a section of hangers, one bad downspout. Replacement is the honest answer when hail has dented a system along its length, when the gutter has been re-pitched repeatedly and no longer holds slope, when the fascia behind it has rotted, or when the system was undersized for the roof area feeding it to begin with. We will not sell you four repairs on a system that needs replacing, and we will not sell you a replacement to avoid doing a repair properly.

When It Isn't the Gutter

Overflow is not always a gutter failure. Water sheeting over the front edge in a hard storm often means the roof plane feeding that run is larger than the gutter and downspouts can carry — the plumbing code sizes roof drainage from the local 100-year, one-hour rainfall rate for exactly that reason, and a system sized for a smaller roof will overflow no matter how clean it is. Water behind the gutter usually means a drip edge or flashing problem at the roof edge, not the gutter itself. And staining on the siding below can trace to roof runoff patterns rather than to anything the gutter did. We diagnose which of those you actually have before quoting.
