Let's define this service precisely, because the law does: we document and price the construction side of your claim. We inspect, photograph, meet your adjuster on-site, prepare estimates, and build supplements for missed scope. We do not act as public adjusters, negotiate settlement amounts, or interpret your policy as advice — in Oklahoma, only licensed public adjusters may negotiate claim settlements. That boundary isn't a limitation; it's why insurers take our documentation seriously.
What homeowners actually lose money on isn't bad luck — it's missed scope and missed process. Here's how the process really works, and where we fit.
The Oklahoma Claim Timeline, Step by Step
An Oklahoma roof claim follows a fixed arc: notice of loss, insurer acknowledgment, adjuster inspection, first payment, repairs and supplements, and — on replacement-cost policies — release of recoverable depreciation. Under Oklahoma's claim-handling requirements, insurers must acknowledge a claim within 30 days and supply proof-of-loss forms within 30 days, then have about 45 working days after an executed proof of loss to accept or deny, with investigations generally completed within 60 days. Adjusters typically inspect within 5–14 days — longer after major storms. On RCV policies the first check is actual cash value minus your deductible, with depreciation released after completion documentation; ACV-only roof schedules, increasingly common on older roofs, pay depreciated value with no holdback. We keep you oriented at every one of those steps.
What We Do — and What the Law Says We Don't
At each stage, the contractor's legitimate role is documentation and construction pricing: elevation-by-elevation photo inspection, meeting the adjuster on your roof so every documented finding gets walked together, preparing detailed estimates, and explaining the code requirements that belong in the scope. What no contractor may legally do is negotiate your settlement — that's public adjusting, restricted to licensees under Oklahoma law, and the Insurance Department has expressly warned contractors off it. If a claim becomes a genuine dispute over settlement amount, the right referral is a licensed public adjuster or attorney, and we'll tell you so plainly.
The Deductible Law, Straight Up
Since November 1, 2022, under HB 1940 — codified at 36 O.S. § 3614.1 — it is illegal for a contractor to pay, waive, rebate, absorb, or discount your insurance deductible. Treat any contractor's offer to "eat the deductible" as exactly what the law calls it: insurance fraud. The companion contractor statute goes further — insurers may disregard the estimate of a violating contractor entirely, which means the "free deductible" pitch can wreck the very claim it was supposed to sweeten. Your out-of-pocket on a covered RCV claim is your deductible plus any elective upgrades — never less, because that's the law.
Supplements: Where the Missed Money Lives
Adjusters move fast, and initial scopes routinely miss legitimate items: code-required upgrades, drip edge, ice-and-water shield, ventilation, decking replacement. Supplementation is the formal fix — documenting each missed item with photos, code citations, and industry-standard Xactimate pricing, submitted through you, the homeowner. This is where our general-contractor scope pays off twice: storm damage that crosses into gutters, interior, or structure gets captured in the same documentation instead of scattered across contractors who each only see their own trade. Supplements exist to make sure your covered scope is complete — not a dollar more, and not a dollar less.
When Filing Is the Wrong Move
Sometimes the honest advice is: don't file. Damage below or near your deductible, cosmetic-only damage under a cosmetic exclusion, or an older ACV-scheduled roof where the depreciated payout barely moves the project — in those cases a straight retail repair or replacement, with Hearth financing where useful, beats putting a claim on your record. There's no fixed statutory filing deadline in Oklahoma — it's policy-controlled, with many policies requiring prompt notice and most carriers effectively expecting filing within about a year of the date of loss — so there's time to make the decision right. Our free inspection gives you the facts to make it.
