Local Expertise for Shawnee
Shawnee's older residential fabric runs along and off North Bell and Broadway — early-1900s homes with steep pitches, front-facing gables, and porch roofs that tie into the main assembly at awkward angles, which is where these houses leak. The Kickapoo corridor and the north side carry the postwar and 1970s-80s ranch stock that took the brunt of the 2023 tornado. Newer additions like Deerfield Estates, Winding Creek, and Wyndemere are conventional modern builds. A large share of north and west Shawnee has been reroofed since April 2023, which makes the remaining un-replaced roofs in those neighborhoods conspicuous.
We serve homeowners in Bell Street Historic District, Historic Downtown Shawnee, Deerfield Estates, and surrounding Shawnee neighborhoods. Our crews know the local building codes, conditions, and project patterns specific to Shawnee.
Local Note
The April 2023 tornado was up to 1.3 miles wide, so the damage boundary in Shawnee is not a clean line — houses a block outside the visible destruction took wind and debris impacts that were never inspected because the roof still looked intact from the driveway. Those are the ones we still find failing.

Central Oklahoma Storm History
The storms that shaped how we build roofs here.
May 16 OKC metro hailstorm
Softball-size hail across the metro — still the benchmark event Oklahoma City roofs are measured against.
May 20 Moore EF5 tornado
Over a thousand homes damaged or destroyed; reshaped how central Oklahoma thinks about roof decking, fastening, and rebuild codes.
April 19 metro hailstorm
Large hail raked the metro with insured losses in the hundreds of millions — a spring-season reminder that filing windows matter.
May 22 wind & hail outbreak
Another multi-county wind and hail event in the heart of storm season — same-day tarping calls across the metro.

April 19, 2023 — a large multiple-vortex EF2 tornado developed southeast of Bethel Acres and moved through western and northern Shawnee from 9:39 to 10:16 PM, reaching 2,300 yards wide with winds of 130 to 135 mph over a 15.5-mile path; it damaged Oklahoma Baptist University, the high school, and the Shawnee Mall area at I-40 and Kickapoo, took out roughly 800 poles and 350 transformers, and left most of the town without power for about a week
-
May 19, 2013 — a violent EF4 tornado tracked out of eastern Norman past Lake Thunderbird and on into the Shawnee and Bethel Acres area of Pottawatomie County
-
September 19, 2023 — trained spotters and an NWS employee reported tennis-ball size hail, about 2.5 inches, roughly four miles northeast of Shawnee alongside 60 mph wind gusts
Local Conditions & Codes in Shawnee
Climate & Conditions
Shawnee sits at the downstream end of the central Oklahoma tornado corridor — storms that organize near Norman and Moore mature by the time they reach Pottawatomie County, which is exactly how both the 2013 EF4 and the 2023 EF2 arrived here. Hail rides the same track: the April 2023 outbreak produced one to three inch stones across central Oklahoma, and September of that year put tennis-ball hail just northeast of town. Both of the major recent tornadoes hit at night.
Building Codes & Permits
Shawnee is its own permitting jurisdiction and Oklahoma City's reroof-permit rule does not apply here — confirm current requirements with the City of Shawnee permit office before scheduling work. Oklahoma requires roofing contractors to be registered with the Construction Industries Board under the Oklahoma Roofing Contractor Registration Act and to display that number in advertising. Under 36 O.S. § 3614.1 it is illegal for any contractor to pay, waive, rebate, or absorb your insurance deductible.
